This is my 5th year teaching math. I started out teaching Algebra and Geometry in a high school outside Boston, MA, and now I teach Middle School and I love it! I used to be an accountant, but I realized that my true passion is being part of academia and the school community.
My goal each day is to make mathematics accessible to every student. I teach math completely differently from the way I learned it. I spent my time in math class memorizing rules and processes. Math is completely different from that now. I want my students to be able to reason through problems and make educated decisions about their answers. I always ask my students to explain their thinking, either in words, diagrams, or models.
I recently completed my K-8 Math Specialist certification.
I graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA with a B.S. in Accounting. After three years in the business world, I decided that I really wanted to help people, to teach, and to plan a few proms in the meantime. I went back to school for my Masters, and graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA with a Masters of Arts in Teaching. In my five years as a teacher, I have also attended many interesting professional development sessions, the most gratifying recently being a Flipped Classroom workshop and my 2 years spent with my cohort for the Math Specialist certification.
In addition to planning lessons, I'm also planning a wedding! I love to run, golf, cook, try new recipes, and travel.
