For the past 31 years I have taught everything from junior high (7th and 8th grade) English, including gifted ed, to university English and education, to adult education in a vocational rehabilitation center, to high school English, with an emphasis on AP Language and AP Literature. I recently retired after teaching at a STEM school that has an aviation and aerospace theme. I also have nearly ten years of online teaching experience.
Being a bit ADD myself, I prefer variety--everything from mini-lectures to small group activities to individual writing assignments so I can work with students one-on-one. I prefer hands-on activities and projects.
Is this the bragging section? Although I have enough certificates and plaques to cover a wall--everything from Who's Who to USA Today--Teacher Team to teacher of the year for two school districts, my best honor is when students come back after graduation and say: "Gee, you made college so easy! I can write my essays practically in my sleep. Thanks for preparing me!"
B.A. in English, MEd., and hours and hours and hours of professional development!
Reading to me will always be a REAL book, allowing me to curl up on my favorite chair with blanket, tea or wine, and a cat or two on my lap.
