TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught every grade and every ability level of middle school and high school English. During the latter years of my high school teaching career, I taught Advanced English 11, Advanced English 12, AP English Literature and Composition, and AP English Language and Composition.

I remain involved in education by working with pre-service teachers and facilitating online professional development courses for in-service teachers.

My professional interests include everything related to grammar, literature, and writing as well as issues of teacher autonomy and empowerment. I have presented workshops on these topics, and my publications have appeared in the National Council of Teachers of English’s High School Literature Series, the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, and the ALAN Review.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My style is a blend of teacher-directed and student-centered learning that engages learners, capitalizes on each student’s individual strengths, and offers opportunities for all students to develop to their maximum potential.

I have always tried my hardest to set high standards for instructional rigor, quality, and integrity--regardless of the instructional mandates and other administrative challenges I faced.
