I have been teaching Living Environment, AP Environmental Science and Middle School Science in a public schools in NYC and Buffalo for almost 10 years. I am the Science Department Leader at my school. All of my students have shown incredible growth on the NYS Regents exams, ELL's and IEP students, too! All assignments are aligned to NYS standards.
Flipped Classroom Resources: I wouldn't say that I am a "flipped classroom" but I use these resources to supplement my lessons. Some students just need to see, read, hear and experience things multiple times- but you can't pause and rewind the teacher! I assign videos as homework to front load content before the lesson. I have found it especially helpful for my ELL students because there are visual clues and they can listen to the material and read along to support their language acquisition. Lecture videos are an incredible remediation resource. Instead of tutoring multiple subjects before an assessment- I can advise students to review certain videos that cover content they need to review. Standards Based Grading- My school uses standard based grading so I created a clear set of Learning Targets that my students must show mastery on. These targets have been successful indicators for my students success on NYS Regents. If you are new to Mastery, Learning Targets or Standards Based Grading- check out my Learning Targets for inspiration. Labs: I LOVE labs- that's why I teach science! I have included some of my favorite labs that I have written. All labs are designed to assess the students mastery of scientific skills and problem solving. These labs are aligned to NYS LE standards. I have some labs translated into Spanish for bilingual schools and ELL students
