Student-centered, high expectations with articulated standards focusing most often around independent research (mini- or major) projects and tasks for both individuals and in groups. Oral Presentations and Lesson Delivery by these individuals or groups nearly always included as part of their tasks in order to introduce and reinforce public speaking, organizational, and collaborative skills.
Empire State Excellence in Teaching Awardee. Awardee of two Fulbright-Hays Summer Seminars Abroad, one of the most competive programs to which any teacher might apply. Lived, studied, and researched in Egypt and India, five-six weeks each Seminar, and developed curriculum projects based on information and materials gathered while in-country. Awardee of fifteen Summer Workshops, Institutes, and Seminars through the National Endowment for the Humanities. Awardee of nine Summer Seminars through the Gilder-Lehrman Institute for American History. Club/Team Advisor of the Year for work conducted with student writers and artists on Horizons Literary Arts Magazine. Publication Advisor of the Year by the Empire State School Press Association at Syracuse University. Teacher Appreciation Award, Brooklyn and Staten Island Schools Superintendency.
