TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Over 18 years teaching English, Literature, and the Arts in a variety of capacities from the International Baccalaureate Program to Reading Intervention for all types of learners, I love what I do and helping others have their "aha" moment making personal connections to the texts or just getting it done! I recently completed an Educational Specialist Degree in School Leadership and Policy studies: observing teachers, coaching teachers, designing authentic lesson plans and curriculum maps to align not only with standards but with other contents for interdisciplinary learning. In 2012, I earned a Masters in Reading and Literacy with a Gifted Endorsement to better reach all students so that they can be successful in school and beyond and become lifelong readers and learners. This is underpinned with a Bachelors of Social Work and English from the University of Georgia ensuring that students' Social and Emotional needs are being met prior to diving in to the learning environment.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My lessons identify prior knowledge, help students make personal connections to the topics so that they can build their knowledge, and develop their own areas of inquiry for project based learning. The lessons allow for collaboration or independent work and have application to go beyond the learning target researching for personal connections and goals.
