I have been a high school English teacher since 2007. In this time, I have taught grades 9-12, with students at opposite ends of the spectrum occupying seats in my room. I have had them all- motivated, self-driven honors students, students on ESE consultation, seniors barely scraping by, English language learners...the full gamut. It has always been my mission to bring to my students my love of literature and the written word through relevant texts. My motto has been "if the students can't relate, is it necessary?". This has been my driving force in my tenure as an educator. Every student wants to succeed in some form at school; they just need to see and understand that it is possible for them.
It took me a few years to figure out my teaching style. Having been hired at my first school 2 months post-UCF graduation, I had a very different idea of what type of teacher I wanted to be versus the kind of teacher I needed to be. I've always been driven by school, books, and learning, and coming face-to-face with students vastly different from who I was as a student was my biggest challenge to overcome. Over the years, I have learned that humor goes a long way along with transparency. Students need to know you're a person, too. I've learned to lower my walls and let my kids in. I won't say it's been perfection but it has allowed me to personify the type of educator I know I can be.

I am a proud alumni of the University of Central Florida where I earned by BA in English Language Arts Education in 2006. After teaching for several years, I had a clearer idea of where I wanted my career trajectory to go. Back to school I went and earned my MA in Teaching and Learning focused in Curriculum and Instruction from Nova Southeastern University in 2012.
