I have always loved Literacy and as a result of some great mentors, I have continued to grow in this area as an educator. I am a Reading Specialist and I've also taught 2nd (9 years), 3rd, 4th, 5th, and preprimary grades. In the last few years, I have coached other teachers in the area of literacy both individually and in groups. I have completed an Emerging Leader's Institute through a national independent school organization, presented at conferences, and have my Associate Level for Orton Gillingham through OGA.
Building a classroom community is one of the most important components of my teaching style. It lasts all year and takes a lot of hard work to build trust, respect, safety, and love for all the students (and their parents) to have for each other and for me. I believe in building meaningful connections in as many ways as needed for each individual student. Teaching is a partnership between myself and the student, their parents, my colleagues, and the greater school community. I also think it's important for them to have FUN and enjoy learning!
