Language Counts

I have taught elementary English language learners in the US and abroad. In the United States I worked with a mostly refugee population in a pull-out ESOL program. This past year, I taught first grade in an international school to native Arabic speakers. A majority of my work has been with students that are still beginners in learning English. The focus has always been to develop their language, but also to support them in their grade-level courses. I love to work through a content lesson (math, ELA, science, etc.) and find ways to differentiate it so that all students can learn from it. Prior to becoming an ESOL teacher, I taught math in learning centers and tutoring companies. I tutored elementary students through AP Calculus. I taught adults in college courses, as well as SAT, ACT, and GED prep. For the next few years, I will be focusing on my TPT store to give you all great resources to use in your classroom. I’m excited to be able to combine my two passions of ESOL and math to bring you resources that help all students!

I mix language learning with content. One, teaching just grammar, mechanics, random vocabulary, etc. bores me to the core. Two, in all of my teaching situations, the only education the students were getting was in English. They deserve to learn about the world around them just as much as their English-speaking peers!

I have a Master's in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language) and a k-12 teaching certification from the state of Maryland. My original certification is in ESOL (k-12), but I hold additional endorsements in middle school mathematics, middle school ELA, and special education.

I live in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia with my husband and two cats, Sylvia and Habeeb. I love coffee, cats, cooking, and my computer. These are the 4C's to a happy day.
