I started out as an specialist language teacher in Amsterdam. I taught English to students in Elementary school and then at vocational education level to students studying restaurant management, culinary education, and facility management education. I moved from Amsterdam to Dubai and was an ELL teacher at a Korean after-school academy for ages 3 to 15. That's where I fell in love with teaching phonics and literacy. I soon got the itch to teach in an international school as I knew it would give me the opportunity to teach all subjects one day. After 2 years as a Grade 1 ELL teacher I decided to make the move to Grade 2 homeroom. And here I am now!
I love teaching through games and crafts. I feel like the students are more engaged and proud of their work this way. I believe in a positive classroom atmosphere and fostering a culture of kindness among my students. I believe centers are a great way for students to learn without feeling pressured, and also to teach them to be independent in their learning and respect classroom materials.
