I began my teaching career as a middle school science teacher in a Title I school, where I taught for seven years. During this time I helped start the first Middle School Dual Language Program. I moved to a dual-language elementary school so that I could have a similar schedule to my son (who was in 1st grade at the time). In my first two years, I taught extraordinary students as a bilingual life skills educator. As a result, I am well versed in the use of IEPs, accommodations, modifications, and ARDs). Because of my previous experience with AVID in middle school, I also became the AVID Coordinator for my school. For the last 2 years, I have taught science in Spanish and Spanish language arts to emerging language learners. However, this coming school, I am being promoted to be our school's Bilingual Content Interventionist / Coach. I am super thrilled and honored and can't wait to share more resources with you! **Before teaching for Austin ISD, I taught Adult Computer Classes and Spanish Classes to all students at an Elementary near the University of Texas at Austin.
Project-based learning (PBL) is an instructional method that uses self-contained, student-centered projects as a way to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Creative Learning Initiatives (CLI) use projects that are nature-based to engage students in their learning. STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) initiatives bring together students in different disciplines to collaborate on ideas. SEL initiatives aim to promote social and emotional learning among students. The Science of Reading (SoR) study focuses on how the brain processes text, including the impact of digital devices on reading comprehension.
