I have been teaching for over 20 years in an urban setting. For 14 of those years, I have taught math to 5th - 8th grade students. I also have the privilege of working with the Golden Apple Foundation, where each summer we work with college students who are training to become teachers.
I believe in challenging student pre-conceived conceptions so that new content that is taught has an easier time findings its way into their understanding of mathematical concepts. Every day in my class (when not interrupted by fire drills, pictures, or any other millions things that happen in a school day!), there is a mixture of whole group instruction, small group instruction, group work, and individual work. Depending on the day, those might occur in any given order.
I am a Golden Apple Fellow.
I have a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as a Masters in Middle School Math. My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education.
