I've been teaching high school English and Language Arts for over 20 years, from struggling readers to honors and AP level, 9th through 12th grade. Prior to that, I taught college freshman composition classes at the university level for three years.
I am a vocabulary geek! I believe that highlighting vocabulary and teaching it in context benefits my students in numerous ways across their experience. They can take the words learned in my class with them anywhere. A broader vocabulary helps them gain confidence to enter into a mature, academic discourse.
