MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in teaching quality BOOKS so I structure my units around novels with skills embedded into the novel activities. While excerpts of books are helpful, students need more time on more text -- beginning to end -- to piece together literary elements in a meaningful way. Students need to be given choices that integrate their learning and skills with their personal talents and interests. This type of deep-dive learning builds knowledge which leads students to successful college and career paths.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I received a mayoral citation for a cross-curricular unit I planned and taught on the Underground Railroad with the history and art teachers.
