Kim Norman

I'm a children's book author who has visited more than 250 schools sharing my love of books, reading and writing. My books are published by Scholastic, Sterling, Penguin/RandomHouse, Candlewick and Farrar, Straus and Giroux (MacMillan.) I homeschooled for about a dozen years, teaching co-op classes in various areas, including English, history and art. I'm also a graphic artist.

I like to make sure my lessons are memorable. So, for instance, when I do school presentations, I always use visuals (often funny visuals) that I hope will be a nice blend of education, entertainment and "take-aways" (skills that students can take back to the classroom and apply to their studies and tests.)

I serve as the Literacy Advisor to the Virginia Peninsula Children's Literacy Foundation. For nearly six years, I worked as graphics editor of the Newport News, York County and Williamsburg "Kidsville News," an educational newspaper that was distributed in city elementary schools. My books have been featured in Scholastic Bookfairs and take-home fliers, as well in Barnes and Noble stores around the US and Canada. My books have been translated and published in French, German and Korean.
