I've taught straight grade levels and multiage groups in early primary grades PreK-K, 1 and 2. Before landing my teaching job, I worked as a substitute. I know how tough having a new job every day can be for a substitute and how many HOURS a teacher can spend writing well organized plans for a substitute. We don't want wasted days! I joined TpT in 2006 right after the concept was born. I was the first teacher to write and post substitute plans on TpT. You work hard...reward yourself and take the day off!
I feel teaching presentation and style must match the classroom dynamics and age level. Since I work with little ones, I prefer to do a lot of hands-on activities that break concepts down into simple manageable chunks and make learning fun. In my classroom, we get out of our chairs, laugh, sing, dance, work/talk in teams, maintain consistency, and drill the basics.
I have been awarded teacher of the month twice at my charter school and have received Model Classroom status from Reading Renaissance for two years. I have been nominated for a Disney Teacher award and won a Target Teacher Scholarship. But best of all....I get hugs and smiles from my students everyday!
I have a Master's in Curriculum Instruction from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA and Bachelor of Arts in Technical Journalism from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. I hold a professional teaching license in Wisconsin.
