I have been teaching history at the high school level for 8 years. I have the most experience in American and World History but have also taught courses on Homeland Security, the Holocaust, Citizenship in Action, Law, and Government.
Although historical content is just plain fascinating for many reasons, I believe the most important skills to impart to students are those of critical thinking, reading, writing, investigating, sourcing, questioning, problem solving, creative thinking...you get the point! I am heavily project based as well as focused on cooperative learning. I push my students to display their learning in creative ways. I often start class with whole group discussion and then we move to small groups or station activities. I love creating fun, challenging, and engaging lessons and update my curriculum every year.
