TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have multiple books published for educators, and utilize my past experience including 6 years as assistant high school librarian, computer/tech teacher, speech & debate assistant coach, 12 years substitute teaching, with prolonged periods in 2nd and 5th grades, adult education workshops in writing, currently homeschooling two children, and teaching at education conferences. I am currently the Curriculum Coordinator for Goldminds Publishing, writing literature theme units for their young adult division, and assisting in other writing projects.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have a relaxed, student-directed style of teaching, which focuses on activating the interest of the child and allowing them to explore it fully in the manner that best suits their learning style. Expansion activities aim at broadening their adaptability to other learning styles and integrating the lessons learned with other areas of life.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been published and received several awards in varied areas. See my web page for a complete listing, at www.kbnelson.wordpress.com I was honored to be selected by Home Educating Family Association to present four 20-minute shows featuring specific aspects of teaching methods. Films to be release Nov. 1, 2012.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I was typically an honor student through grade school, winning literature contests and ranking high in vocal and instrumental competitions. Higher education included College of the Ozarks, before ultimately graduating from Missouri State University, summa cum laude.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I enjoy the unique perspective of having been heavily involved with both public school and the home school community, finding the best of both worlds to craft an individualized education that ignites and excites a child to a life-long love of learning!
