Jon Halvorson

Eighteen years as a 2nd/3rd grade teacher. Written and directed over a dozen musicals during that time. Taught 3 years of elementary math at the community college.

In a nutshell, we work hard and have fun. From day one, we establish a working community with high expectations for performance and behavior. Students have a great voice in our room, but also have a clear, bottom line for safety and comfort. Whenever possible, learning takes place through integrated projects where specific skills are learned and used to further the mission or adventure. We build a city, explore a faraway river, rehearse and perform a subject-related musical, and on and on. Students feel empowered. Students continue to develop a sense of purpose and motivation.
