TEACHING EXPERIENCE

For the first 9 years of my teaching experience I taught middle-school special education to students ranging from learing disabilities to moderate disabilities, specializing in life skills, math, and reading/language arts. For the past three years I have been a 6th grade special education teacher specializing in students with learning disabiliites, teaching math.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Not all students learn the same way, so I try to use a variety of methods and examples to teach to each individual.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, I just didn't realize my path would lead me to teaching students with exceptionalities. I began my educational path pursuing my elementary education license. After graduation, finding a job was tough. I spent two years subbing in the schools in my area, and I always got called back to the special educaion classroom. I decided to get some more education in the field and took a summer course on differeniating instruction. My first full-time teaching experience landed me in a rural school district teaching mild-moderate students reading/language arts, math, and life skills. I had very little experience, and had to go back to school while working full-time to get my special education license. It was very challenging, but I loved every minute of it! Within the 9 years I spent at my first job, I also went back to school to recieve my masters in education. Eventually starting a family made me want to return to teach in my hometown, which is where I am now, teaching math to 6th grade students with learning disabilites, in the same middle school I attended.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am married with a one-year-old son, and a very special pet pot-bellied pig.
