TEACHING EXPERIENCE

It was my great pleasure to spend my entire 36 year teaching career in Freeburg, Illinois. I began at the pre-school in 1982, moved to the grade school in 1988 and retired at the end of the 2017-18 school year.. I've taught first, second, and third grade. I also taught in the Education Division at McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois and Reading and Children's Literature at Southerwestern Illinois College in Belleville, Illinois from 1998-2016.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I enjoy engaging, student centered lessons that allow me to learn right along with my students. I try to create a balanced literacy program and prefer student made projects to communicate learning rather than worksheets. Although I ma be an "old dog" I have learned some "new tricks" by incorporating web quests and virtual field trips into the curriculum and using educational technology programs to enhance reading and math instruction.
