TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught high school English in the public school system since 2004. During my time at the highly revered, award winning Whittier High School, I served as department chair and course lead, designing course curriculum and common assessments aligned with the English Language Arts Content Standards for California Public Schools, which was adopted by all seven schools within my district. I now teach at Livermore High School in the Northern California Bay Area where I have been since 2015. In addition to my English courses, I am currently my school's yearbook adviser, a role I am thoroughly enjoying. I am also a freelance writer/editor/reviewer/proofreader with many educational publishers as clients, including Teacher Created Materials, Sadlier, Shell, and AMSCO. MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in setting students up for success. The first step in doing so is building a strong rapport and a safe, encouraging environment where students can flourish. From there, I believe it is my job to appropriately structure and pace my lessons with engaging materials and helpful resources, but the kids should be doing most of the heavy lifting. By the end of the class period, the students should be more tired than I am! When students are engaged and challenged, the most meaningful, lasting learning takes place.
