TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for almost 10 years. Although I have spent the majority of time in 5th grade, I have also worked with students and teachers from 2nd-6th grade, creating effective and engaging lessons in both language arts and math. I am currently a curriculum coach, and love helping to create lessons that provide hands-on learning and incorporate reading, writing, listening, and speaking!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am all about independence. For years, my students knew the answer to the question "What kind of students do I need you to be?" was always "Independent!" I think it's important for kids to learn how to read directions, work on their own, troubleshoot their own issues, and use problem solving skills to come up with their own answers. This not only creates life skills but helps them to be ready for standardized tests as well. Many of my lessons promote this independence, as well as letting kids work with each other. I believe this combination of self-motivation mixed with the use of teamwork help students to reach their highest potentials.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I've been on my schools' leadership and curriculum team for 3 years. It's been a great time to get to know various grade levels and teaching styles!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor of Science Degree, Ball State University Currently enrolled in Masters Program for Instruction and Curriculum Development

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

As many teachers do, I have a part time job. Mine is extra fun because I work at a comedy club! Laughing and being playful is by far my favorite thing to do. You may even see a few "inside" things to make the teacher smile (that kids wouldn't necessarily get) in some of my units and plans! ("Sally, Jessy, and Raphael were splitting a pie....")
