I have been teaching in the primary grades for the past 13 years. First grade for 6 years and 2nd grade for 5 years. I am moving on to 3rd grade in the coming school year and look forward to the challenge.
I support a balanced reading program through the implementation of differentiated instruction with reading and writing workshops. I create a sense of curiosity and deepen understanding of Math, Social Studies, and Science by using thematic units. Specifically, I teach units on schoolyard exploration, bringing math to life through real life experiences, and historical role-play.
I conceptualized, developed, and won over $25,000 in grants for student achievement including a grant from Crayola that led to the amazing experience of presenting at a national conference. I actively engage students in learning through creative multidisciplinary lessons that integrate dance, drama, music, and visual arts. I integrate technology through the development of computer literacy, and adaptive technology to meet the needs of all learners. I am also able to foster meaningful relationships with student, parents, community members, and colleagues by using interpersonal and communication skills.
I currently hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Florida and a Masters’ of Science degree in Reading and Literacy from Walden University.
In my role as an educator I consistently provide instruction that leads to over one year of growth in Reading and Math. I continuously enhance student academic growth by using varied teaching strategies and techniques including: explicit instruction, small groups, individualized instruction, visual aids, and teacher modeling to provide a solid academic foundation and a positive attitude toward education.
