TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Twenty-five years in the high school classroom. Currently, AP European History, Psychology, and World History. Previously, Economics, AP Art History, and Freshmen English (forgive the CAPS ;)

MY TEACHING STYLE

Prefer the Socratic style with open format and questions that provoke and challenge students. I love to use visuals (art, sculpture, architecture) to develop what an old colleague referred to as 'visual vocabulary.' I Powerpoint is great when images and music are emphasized over excessive wordiness.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Teacher of the Year (2007), "Who's Who Among America's Teachers," and Best Dad Ever (ran unopposed and received both votes ;)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

The Ohio State University (B.A. 1989), Whittier College (MA, credential 1994), extensive coursework in creative writing, art history, European history, and psychology. And of course lots of professional development over the years.
