Lisa Navarra has received a proclamation from former NYS Senator Caesar Trunzo for my "foresight and dedication" in the recognition of one of her several funded grants to benefit the lives of children within the school system.
Lisa Navarra began her career as a teacher of students who were classified Emotionally Disturbed and later taught students with mixed disabilities. Following these classroom experiences, she became the school district's behavior specialist where she wrote FBA's and BIP's and facilitated team meetings for grades K-12. She is also the district trainer in how to de-escalate behavior through CPI. The position was excessed and she was put back into the classroom after nearly 10 years. It was then that she realized her struggling learners needed to learn "how to learn" to be able to acquire, retain and apply what was being taught to them. With this experience and passion for teaching struggling learners, she developed research-driven, evidence-based learning tools, children's books, children's music and other resources to support student learning and teaching methods. Therefore, she trains and practices the paradigm shift of teaching "how to learn" while teaching " what to learn" which is often taught in isolation.
