TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a elementary school teacher in Toronto, Ontario, Canada who has taught grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7. I have learned that it is extremely difficult to choose a favourite grade to teach because each age group comes with its own set of laughs, tears, fun, and learning and personal growth opportunities.

MY TEACHING STYLE

It is so important to me to build on my student's strengths and needs and hook them with lessons, activities, and tasks that relate to their interests. I love cooperative learning as it allows students to share their thoughts, dilemmas, aha moments, and struggles with someone they see as equal to them. Experiments, hands on activities, technology, visuals, and manipulatives are all things that I value in learning environments. I strongly believe that positive reinforcement is the ONLY way to manage any classroom. In my experience, when students feel their strengths and accomplishments are acknowledged and rewarded, they instantly make it their goal to always deliver their best selves.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and attended Teacher's College at OISE right after. Majority of my elective courses in high school consisted of math and science because of my love for biology as well as my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian which changed when my Grade 10 English teacher changed my life when he told me I would make a great teacher. I also took art classes when possible as it is also a passion of mine.
