HeARTworks is a collaborative endeavor created by Victoria and her sister Sharon. Victoria has been a preschool teacher for over 30 years working in programs emphasizing hands-on learning through play, with a focus on social-emotional development, creative thinking, mindfulness, problem solving, art and literature. Sharon has worked as a preschool teacher, a regional project manager within the New Jersey State Department of Education, and as a youth services librarian focusing on early literacy and expressive arts.
Victoria's work focuses on experiential learning within Reggio-inspired classroom centers with emphasis on social-emotional skills and language, problem solving, art and literature. Sharon's teaching philosophy is also learner-centered,. emergent, and experienced-based for children through adults.
Sharon's work has won the New Jersey State Library's Best Practices in Early Literacy Programs prize twice. The first award was for creating Family Reading Incentive Programs, and the second was for developing a self-directed art/maker space for children and their families.
Victoria has a BA in Early Childhood Education, and is a licensed Nursery School and K to 8 teacher in NJ. She is also credentialed as a TimeSlips facilitator and in Mindfulness Fundamentals from Mindful Schools. Sharon is a credentialed early childhood educator, supervisor, public librarian, and school media specialist. Her education includes a BA in Early Childhood Education, Masters in Educational Media and Library Services, and doctoral courses in Curriculum Development.
