TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have many years of experience teaching Mandarin in an independent school setting. I developed a Mandarin program from scratch, implemented in grades 1-8. I developed many of my own materials, and enjoy sharing them with other teachers!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Fun! My classes play lots of games, and are very energetic. We do, of course, have the occasional grammar lecture. I am a tough-love kind of teacher. I expect a lot, but try to make the material accessible. In my teaching, I do not introduce pinyin until 6th grade. Because I taught non-immersion classes and did not see my students very often, I focused on pronunciation, listening comprehension, and character recognition. Pinyin got in the way while students were still learning how to spell English. Instead, I focused on accessible characters, radicals, and listening to help students access the language.
