Habla Llama

I teach in 9th - 11th grades in a private high school that serves low income students. It's actually, my Alma Matter and I love it! I have been there for six years. Most of my students are native speakers who have never taken a formal Spanish class before. I love incorporating current events, history, music, movies in my classes. I truly believe that students learn better with more exposure to different perspectives.

I love using a fresh approach to understanding texts and analyzing them by creating connections to my students’ lives. I think explaining concepts in the most fun and engaging way, while challenging students to use their creativity is crucial to better understanding and analysis of any text. In a language or literature class teachers need to focus on helping students develop critical thinking skills, and to me that is way more important than just memorizing words (although... if you really want to be fluent in a language, you should probably start memorizing)

I'm very passionate about helping other teachers find what makes them unique and helping them use their own skills to develop relationships with their students to create the best learning environment. I also believe that SEL is much needed in the classroom and I love starting my classes with an SEL activity so we can build trust with each other and create a supportive community within the classroom. Our teaching is more effective when we focus on our relationships with our students.
