I was a professional graphic artist and university administrator for 20+ years before becoming a high school graphic arts technical education teacher. I taught graphic design, offset printing technology, copy center management, and photography in a lab setting at a vocational high school. I now freelance as a designer.
I believe that creativity and a structured environment help students, reach their maximum potential. It was very important to me to give my students real-world experience so our copy center and graphic design lab was open to the public. Every job was a lesson. I also made a concerted effort to work current events, art history and writing into assignments. As a professional graphic artist, I've had to write copy, edit copy and fact check for my bosses and my clients. Students need to be prepared to do the same.
Numerous graphic design awards 1979 thru 1987. Technical Teacher of the Year - 2007.
Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and Advertising. 60 credit hours of technical education classes. Certified Adobe Photoshop and InDesign instructor.
I have been married for 28 years and have two adult sons who show no interest in graphic design or computers... except when theirs are broken. I am a breast cancer survivor! My husband and I participate in the local Susan G. Komen races. Our team name is The DEADLY TA TA's. (I have an off-the-wall sense of humor!)
