I have been a classroom teacher for 20+ years working with kids from all backgrounds. I have also been an elementary science specialist, teaching science to students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Additionally, I have had the pleasure of planning the opening of two different schools. My wife, with whom I create projects with, is a teacher-librarian in a neighboring school district. Together, we have worked for City University with students getting their MA in Ed, decorated classrooms for many years, and created many teaching activities together.
I like to refer to my classroom as a "learning laboratory", a title given to my classroom by a former superintendent. I believe that students can accomplish great things if given the structures and supports necessary.
I have won numerous grants including multiple NCTM and NSTA grants as well as NEA Innovation grants. I am a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching winner. I have presented to teachers across the United States on topics of math and science education.
Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona Masters of Education in Science Education from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.
