I began teaching in 2007. I have taught both 6th/7th grades as well as High School World History (Academic & Honors). These experiences have been in face to face classrooms, as well as in virtual settings. These experiences have provided experience in teaching the history of each region of the world, from beginning of time to present, to a wide range of ability levels. I have also taken the AP Summer Institute for Human Geography. I have also served as an AP Reader for the Human Geography test for 3 years.
My method follows Stanford's "Reading Like a Historian" model. I begin with direct instruction to lay a historical foundation. This is followed by addressing key historical questions through readings, projects, debates and performances. The students are then assessed through a variety of modes including projects, papers, tests, and presentations. I am an advocate of teaching 21st century skills, working to incorporate technology whenever possible; especially in regards to students creating and publishing their work.
