I have over twenty years experience in teaching English to high school juniors and seniors including AP Language and Composition and AP Literature and Composition. SAT preparation and American literature, including poetry, are areas in which I have significant skills. I also have experience in the 7/8 ELA classroom and work hard to engage these younger learners with quick, high-interest activities.
Experience has taught me that it is wise to treat my lesson plans as living documents. I subject them to frequent revision as I learn more about my students' learning styles. Collaborating with colleagues and avidly seeking useful professional development opportunities are vital to my continued growth as an educator.
The National Endowment for the Humanities Landmarks of American History and Culture and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American history summer workshops are something I've been fortunate to attend many times. Both are tremendously worthwhile and among the best professional development opportunities. I am a reader for the AP Language and Composition exam and find it very beneficial for my classroom practice.
