This is my first year teaching! I teach first graders, whom I adore! They have made my first year teaching beyond rewarding and eye opening about all things teaching. I wake up every morning eager to see my 18 best friends and truly treasure the experiences I've had during my first year teaching!
I consider myself to be mostly a facilitator, due to my emphasis on self-discovery. I truly belief that all students have a deeper level of understanding when they discover the answers themselves, rather than being told what to think. In my classroom the word "WHY" is used more than any other. When students are asked to explain their answers, understanding is also deepened. As difficult as it may be, I try to give each student individual time to develop their own understanding, which requires a lot of small group instruction, wait time, and time to explore and self-discover.
