As part of my college program in Idaho, I student taught at a public middle school in 2018. After graduation, I moved back home to Southern California where I got a job as an assistant teacher in 2019 at High Tech Middle. I quickly fell in love with project based learning and the following year got fired as a classroom teacher 2020. I have been teaching there for the past two years and about to start my third.
I currently teach at a Project Based Learning School, and I have always believed that alongside the content, students should learn real life applicable skills. As teachers, we find it difficult to see a student struggle. We are tempted to just hand them all the right answers, or solve a classmate dispute, or shield them from anything that comes their way. However, as we know, if they are part of the process they will learn in a more authentic and meaningful way. My teaching philosophy is something I have put a lot of thought into and am always adjusting as I continue on my journey as an educator. Teaching Philosophy - A student should always remain in the driver seat of their educational journey. Teachers, should never take the wheel and force the student in a direction. Instead, they can be the wheels helping easy their journey and ensure they are moving forward. They can be the windshield wipers that are there to dry their tears and help them see all the great things that have yet to come. You can be the fuel to give them that little extra push when they are feeling down. Of course, you can also be the passenger, listening, cheering, supporting, and helping them on the journey as the best copilots always do.
