I have been teaching for 24 years and in that time, I have spent time in every grade from 1-8. Additionally, I spent 3 years at the system level as a numeracy support teacher. The last 8 years I have spent in grades 1 and 2. My passion is teaching reading to beginning readers. A problem I have been trying to solve is how best to document assessment in the primary classroom.
I incorporate whole group, small group, and one-on-one teaching with a big emphasis on building positive relationships and encouraging students to develop their social-emotional learning skills.
I think the biggest honour that any teacher can achieve is having students remember and think fondly about their time in your classroom. I just adore it when students are all grown up and tell me what they remember about my class.
I obtained a general Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Algoma University and then completed my Bachelor of Education degree at Nipissing University with a teachable in English.
I share life with my partner, 2 teenage kids, and my furbaby Artie.
