TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I'm in my 7th year teaching 8th grade English at Scribner Middle School in New Albany, IN. Before that, I completed my student teaching at Baumholder Middle-High School in Germany, which was a Department of Defense school. It was an absolutely AWESOME experience (I used to be an Army-girlfriend myself while my husband was enlisted). I am also experienced in journalism, and this is my 6th year teaching newspaper/yearbook as a an elective.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I really like discussion-based classrooms. I think students learn best when they are able to have an engaging conversation going rather than listening to me blabber on for 50 minutes. Some strategies I've used that have been successful are the Philosophical Chairs Debate and the Socratic Seminar.
