Description
If you're looking for the perfect "get to know you" activity, look no more! The "I Love" essay asks students to choose something they love and write about it using the repetition of the phrase "I love"! Not only is this an easy icebreaker to get to know your students' interests, but it also serves as the perfect initial assessment piece to gauge where your students' writing abilities are in a very non-threatening assignment. Students will focus on using descriptive language and the five senses as well as demonstrating an understanding of sentence fluency to vividly describe what they love. This short essay assignment is perfect for all secondary grade levels, is a great back-to-school tool, and could be a useful tool to introduce narrative or descriptive writing units. If you want to take it one step further, have your students share their writing aloud!
