ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Reading engagement matters. Reading engagement plays a significant role in our students’ reading comprehension and self-efficacy. Unfortunately, research suggests that a majority of reading practices within middle and high schools decrease reading student engagement due to being “mostly textbook driven, and teacher controlled” (Guthrie 2003). What then can educators do to give students meaningful choices, build their self-efficacy, and aid them in socially engaging with texts they read? The contents of my store are part of my humble attempt to address this question. My early work focuses mostly on comprehension and facilitating social engagement with texts. My more resent plans focus on critical literacy and developing opportunities to give students meaningful choices. I hope you find these resources useful! If you have suggestions, please let me know! Best regards,
