I have taught high school visual arts for 10 years. I am the only art teacher at my school so I have made a very diverse curriculum made from scratch. I have foundational lessons for my Art 1 class which introduce students to the basics of materials and methods. (painting, drawing, perspective, calligraphy, graffiti, ceramics) I have an Advanced Art class which introduces students to thinking and designing with the elements of art and principles of design. I have another class called Life Design which focuses on real world application and careers in the visual arts. (movie makeup, toys, vehicles, tattoos, theatre production, magazine layout, fashion, fantasy weapons, culinary arts, Jewelry, murals, and illustration) I will also eventually have a lesson based on graphic design and video game design. I also have two art history classes in which I cover many of the major cultures/time periods/movements. I am currently working on redesigning all of these lessons so I do not have many of them in my store yet. At the moment, I only have a Prehistoric, Egyptian,African, Chinese, Roman, and an ancient Mayan lesson. I will soon be adding Japan, Greece, Byzantine, Islamic, Celtic, Medieval, Romanesque, Gothic, Northern Renaissance, Italian Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Dada, Surrealism, Harlem Renaissance, Pop art, Performance art, Installation, Land art, and Music Videos. I am very excited to eventually start working on a new class idea I've had based on movie design teams. I love watching behind-the-scenes features of my favorite movies to learn how things were made/designed. I am going to create a full class based on these kinds of creative design. I will teach my classes about fantasy worlds such as Hogwarts, Middle Earth, Narnia, etc. (geography, species, art, history, technology, ...) and then my students will design something to fit into that pre-existing fantasy world (switching from medium to medium and type to type). It is definitely going to take me years and years to create this but it will be absolutely amazing when I do! "Fan Art" is going to be awesome.
I am a creativity-based teacher that believes every student can take their own path to learning the same lesson. I format my lessons to be open ended so that each individual can prove what they have learned in their own way. I teach concepts and techniques in a broad application so that students can use the tips and tricks as they see fit to create what is meaningful and significant to them.
Yet to be added
I have a BA in Visual Arts Education K-12 from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
My mom was a children's pastor for our church as I was growing up so I was behind the scenes helping create every poster, set design, prop, costume, etc for every production, vbs, and church camp. It trained me to think very openly and creatively and I try to instill this in my students. I design each lesson to not only teach a technique and/or concept but to also teach students how to be creative.
