I have been fortunate to be involved in education for 16 years and as a teacher for the last ten. These years have offered me the opportunity to work in a variety of roles and classroom settings from K - 12, though the focus of my career thus far has been at the secondary level. Being in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world, I have worked in schools with varying socioeconomic profiles, gifted students and those who are at-risk, as well as in mainstream and alternative schools. Although each end of the spectrum is quite different and presents unique challenges for educators, a common thread is to find ways to engage students by enriching curriculum in various ways that makes it speak to them.
• Scaffolding • Project based • Student centered • Fuelled by the need to innovate • In my experiences, teachers are always told that "you don't need to reinvent the wheel" when it comes to lesson design and planning. Though this may be true, constantly innovating to bring education to life is necessary for students to truly learn.
