I started teaching in 2001 and have taught; Science 8 to 10, Earth Science 11, Life Science 11/12, IB Biology Sl and HL, Chemistry 11, Planning 10, Environmental Science 11/12 and Math 8 through 12. I have been department head, district environmental coordinator, teacher trainer, a tutor, and an online educator, and a developer of content, but I do prefer my role in the classroom with students.
It is my goal is to create an inclusive classroom for all students. My vision is not to teach science, but to inspire scientists through focus on developing the skills and mindset of a scientist. To achieve this, I have spent many hours testing and creating a system of lessons and assessment strategies so you don't have to. Lessons, assignments and assessments are all presented and graded in a format designed around skill development and assessed to promote learning. Content is naturally integrated, but the focus is on assessment that promotes a growth mindset to improve competencies throughout the year. I practice both formative and cumulative assessment strategies to help support their growth in the areas of Communication, Questioning, Procedures, Analysis, Evaluation, Evidence, Ethics and Perspectives.

Completed by Bachelor's degree in Biology (major in Genetics and Minor in Ecology) at SFU in 2001 and earned my teaching certification also from SFU in 2002. After almost 10 years of teachin I returned in 2011 and completed a Master's Diploma in Education focused on the use of technolgy in the classroom.
I am a naturally reflective person who enjoys organization and challenges. It is these skills that have driven my exploration of how to best assess and educate tomororw's scientists. I am driven by the goal that my courses can meet all students and their diverse learning and achieve a sense to success for them all. Through self-reflection, feedback, opportunities and assessments, students are challenged to communicate their knowledge, use evidence to support their ideas, ask questions and design procedures to test them, critically thing when doing analysis or evaluation of both data and resources, and to apply their knowledge to ethics and perspectives about our world.
