My name is Dr. Loretta J Smith and I currently an A-G Math Advisor for schools within LAUSD. I am a proud protegee of LAUSD and I take joy in working with students and teachers from similar communities as my own. Throughout my professional career, I have served as a secondary math teacher, dance teacher for K - 2nd grade, Math Department Chairperson, Technology Support Aide, WASC Focus Group Leader for Curriculum, Internship Coordinator, Master Teacher, and Instructional Coach. My expertise are in student-engagement, STEAM based-tasks, and technology integration. I have published scholarly research titled, Black Girl Magic: An Exploration of Spirituality in African-American Women in STEM. Other publications include discussions on family structures’ impact on student learning and an overview of culturally relevant teaching practices. Through my work, it is my goal to be part of the solution to enhancing the Black and Brown community. As Marian Wright Edelman says, “Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.”
