Hi, I'm Deb. I've been teaching for 25 years. I have a reading endorsement and especially love teaching reading and math. I have experience as a Title 1 teacher and also 4th grade.The majority of my teaching career was teaching kindergarten. I never had any intention of leaving the kinders, as I love that age and the challenges that come with teaching the young ones. However, when given the opportunity to move up with my class to first grade I took the challenge and LOVED it! Then I moved up with them again to 2nd and thought 2nd grade was the best. After that came looping up with my 2nd graders to 3rd and am convinced THIS is the best grade! I love to read, learn, create, and teach. Starting a TPT shop has been one of my goals, so am excited to take on this new challenge and share what I've learned and made over the years.

My teaching style continues to evolve as I constantly am learning new strategies and research based methods. I am a firm believer in hands on learning. I love to see the joy kids naturally have when they experiment, try new things, fail, try again, and eventually understand a concept or make connections. My students spend a lot of time sharing their learning and understanding with others,. I have found much success using the "to, with and by" model of teaching, spending the most time on the "with" aspect (guiding) until I see students are ready to practice independently. I have learned over the years that a common mistake we make is sending kids off to work independently before they understand concepts. Two of my strengths are helping students gain a deeper conceptual understanding in math and helping them develop a growth mindset. This growth mindset directly affects their confidence in their own ability to be a mathematician. When we can get them beyond the fear of failure and look at failure as a learning process, the learning soars!
