I have sixteen years of experience in the US and abroad teaching and teacher training. I served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Kingdom of Tonga, South Pacific as a teacher trainer and curriculum development officer. After that I traveled to twelve countries around the world and ended up teaching high school and college ESL in Taiwan for four years, where I married my beautiful wife and began a family. Later my wife, our son and I returned to Oregon, where for the last eight years I have taught, by choice, third and sixth grade in strictly Title I high poverty schools. Over the past eight years my students have flourished personally and academically. Each year my class consecutively surpasses state and district averages on State Assessments in Reading and Math. There's nothing wrong with "teaching to the whole child" and being held accountable for what they've learned at the end of the day.
We're shaping the next generation, creating opportunity, impacting society, and forging a better economy. There is no greater role and influence than a caring and competent teacher. My teaching style is to fulfill that role.
