I have almost 20 years experience teaching secondary level Spanish I, II, and III. I have led an Educator Workshop in Guatemala for over 200 Guatemalan teachers, focused on teaching strategies to reach a variety of learners. I participated in Project Happens at the University of Alabama Huntsville. This is an educator workshop focused on Language Acquisition. I have served as a volunteer, tutoring English Language Learners, student and adult. Throughout my undergraduate and graduate programs I have completed many student-teaching hours from the Pre-K level through adult age range.
I strive to create a communicative classroom that utilizes 80% target language by providing comprehensible input and clarification in L1. I believe language acquisition takes place when learners are using the language for authentic purposes and in a situation in which students have opportunities for meaningful discussions. Culture is the vehicle that drives my instruction and allows me to create lessons and engaging activities for my students. I hope each resource I can provide empowers your students to be confident in their linguistic journey.

I’ve been a secondary Spanish teacher for almost 20 years. I teach and live in rural Alabama with my husband, two daughters, an Australian Shepherd and a Holland Lop rabbit. As a teacher, I seek to create a communicative classroom that utilizes 80% target language as comprehensible input. I think language acquisition is optimal when students are engaged, being creative and using language for authentic purposes.
