I began my teaching career as a lab instructor for Anatomy and Physiology I. Since then, I have taught Biology, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Chemistry in both a private and public school setting.
I strive to be a facilitator of learning by providing students with meaningful, inquiry-based and hands-on activities that allow them to access and own the content through self-exploration. I heavily rely on project based learning and technology-integration in the classroom.
Years back, I had a student with selective mutism. He could speak but due to lack of trust and uncertainty, he chose to remain silent at school. According to his mom, even his verbal communication at home was extremely limited. During classwork time, I would ask yes or no questions, and he would nod appropriately. At the end of the semester, my students and I were performing a lab when this student walked right up to me and asked if he could use the restroom. I could not help but choke back happy tears as a I replied, "Yes," because in this one seemingly simple request, he had communicated that he was comfortable in my room and that he trusted me. It made my day and has made my teaching career!
I received both my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biology and my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from King University.
I am a wife and mother, active member within my church, and an avid runner and coffee enthusiast.
