I am a middle school (6th-8th grade) art teacher outside of Washington, DC. I work with about 1300 students on a quarterly basis, meaning my classes switch a lot. My learners are students of all abilities, including those with autism, IEPs, anger management, and more, so I try to make everything I teach very adaptable.
I strive to make my classroom an inclusive place, where students of all abilities can create art. I have found that art class can be a great creative outlet for students that may struggle with other subjects. While I want my classroom to be a fun and stress free environment, I also want students to take art seriously as a subject, so I am a pretty equal balance between relaxed and structured.
At Bucknell, I was honored to receive the The Meerwarth Prize for Sociology in Action for working with Incarcarated men at a state penitentiary on creative projects and theatre set design. I also was awarded the The Class of 1905 Art Prize for my senior painting project and work at the Samek Art Museum.
I have BA's from Bucknell University in Studio Art and Sociology with a minor in Art History. I worked as an interior designer after graduation before transitioning into teaching. I obtained my Art Education certification and have been working as a Middle School art teacher ever since.
My artistic focus is watercolor painting, but I also love colored pencil drawing. I have a fun and colorful sense of style that middle school students really respond to, and I try my best to convey that energy in my classroom.
