I am a (gulp!) twenty-year educator in public, independent and charter schools in SoCal, NYC, and Vermont. I've taught ELA, Humanities, Creativity, and Theatre, and I have served as the student advisory coordinator in several schools. This led me to work closely with organizations including "Community Core"--the name of my store here. Rob Gallo from Join the Community team helped sponsor my work when I was just beginning to see the deep need for quality SEL activities specifically for middle school advisories. During work with our pilot schools, I developed a comprehensive set of lesson plans for middle school educators that wanted to bring in a fresh, engaging SEL program. I've used almost all of these lesson plans with my own students over the years, and I'm so happy to share them with you here.
I love a good plan, and I'm also an improviser! I love bringing fun into whatever I'm teaching, but I know that a strong foundation is essential for grounding ourselves when it comes to meaningful, trust-based work with students. For this reason, my style is probably best described as Thoughtful, Heart-led, and Strategic. I tend to plan for every moment, and then be willing and ready to pivot and flex with the inevitable craziness of school-life!
